Performance
Opah Bags are tried and tested to hold fish and ice for up to 96 hours at 70°F. Higher temperatures will decrease this time and keeping the bag in the shade will increase this time.
Opah Cooler Bags utilize an extremely durable 18 oz. PVC Vinyl with thick closed-cell foam to separate your catch from the elements. This combination equates to ice life of up to 4 days.
To keep the interior of your bag cold for an extended amount of time, minimize the amount of times you open it. Each time the bag is opened, warm air is introduced. Keeping the bag out of direct sunlight also helps tremendously. If you are on a boat in the ocean, mixing saltwater with ice to make a slurry will drop the inside temperature below typical freezing temperatures.
No, Opah cooler bags are all designed to not leak. If you are experiencing a leak in your bag, please submit a warranty claim immediately.
Yes. All Opah Insulated Kill Bags stand upright. The gusseted design keeps the bag in an upright position and prevents it from tipping over in rough seas or in your vehicle.
Opah Fathom Cooler Bags have 2" of closed-cell foam insulation. This is nearly twice as much as our competitors. This is to preserve ice in the bag for as long as possible.
Closed-cell foam is a type of insulation that is perfect for use on a cooler bag. It has millions of tiny bubbles (cells) that act as mini vacuum chambers. This leads to excellent ice life.
Opah cooler bag zippers are not leak-proof. The bag is specifically designed not to tip over under any natural circumstances. This allows us to use a much higher quality zipper than other brands.
In short, water tight zippers suck.
If you have used other bags with "leak-proof" zippers, you will notice how bulky, difficult to open, and prone to failure they are.
We design our bags to not roll over in any situation. This allows us to use a zipper that is a much higher quality than others. Our zippers are made from a premium alloy that will not degrade after continuous exposure to saltwater. The elements (or teeth) of our zippers are also made from a compound that will not break after exposure to UV rays. This means the zipper on your Opah bag will continue to be smooth and strong for years to come.
Opah kill bags offer a wide variety of sizes to perfectly fit your applicaiton. Due to the handmade nature of our products, the following volumes are approximations for what you can expect of our models.
Fathom 3: 52 Quarts
Fathom 4 : 85 Quarts
Fathom 5 : 175 Quarts
Fathom 5 Deep : 235 Quarts
Fathom 6 King : 235 Quarts
Fathom 6 : 335 Quarts
Fathom 7 : 485 Quarts
Yes. All Opah Fathom Kill Bags come with a heavy duty, 2 step, drain plug that has two gaskets to prevent leaking. The opening of the drain is 1" in diameter and allows for easy cleaning.
When the insulated kill bags are not full, the bags are very light. When you fill the bag with fish, it can become quite heavy. The bag is built with handles that will not rip and additional straps around the bag for support. If you have a full bag of fish, heavy is good problem to have.
No. When designing our bags, we went to great lengths to assure we did not have handles that broke. It is a main downfall of many kill bags.
We use automotive seatbelt material for our handles. You do not have to worry about weight limit, UV exposure, or seams tearing. The bag's handles wrap continuously underneath to cradle the load.
For smaller bags such as the Fathom 3 and Fathom 4, lifting while full is manageable with one or two people.
For larger bags, it is best to be cautious.
It is important to remember our cooler bags are multi-functional ice chests.
Ask yourself "Could I lift an ice chest that was this big?"
Our cooler bags offer the performance of a hard cooler with added versatility. When comparing internal volume, Opah bags are exponentially lighter, hold ice for comparable amounts of time, are more versatile, are easier to transport and work around, and can be stored in more compact locations.

Maintenance
Cleaning an Opah bag is extremely simple. Due to our design, cleaning is easier than ever.
Open the drain plug and release all contents from the interior of the bag.
Rinse the inside of the bag with a hose and let drain.
Spray with your cleaning agent of choice, scrub if needed, and drain.
Do one final rinse to make sure all contents exit the bag.
Lewave the bag open and upside down to dry.
Due to our premium vinyl, you can use any household cleaning agent you choose.
The favorites used by our team are dish soap and simple green.
Due to our build process, the insulation at the bottom of the bag may fold over on itself during the packaging process. This is an extremely rare occurrence. Should you run into this problem, there are ways to resolve this issue easily.
If your bag happens to have the insulation folded inside the walls of the bag, follow these easy steps.
1. Open the bag fully and place in direct sunlight for over an hour. This helps the bag loosen up and allows the foam to expand into shape.
2. Unfold the insulation by reaching one arm into the bag while pressing on the exterior with the other. Start at one end and open the insulation progressively until it is flat.
3. Put back in sunlight for at least 1 hour. This allows the bag to expand fully and lock in its shape.
If you are still having issues, please reach out for support.
While our products are incredibly durable, accidental punctures can happen. For repairs, we recommend Tear-Aird Type B. It creates a strong bond that maintains the bag's leak-free design.
